Ingredients

For the Salmon
  • 2 fillets salmon fillets (6-ounce fillets)
For the Glaze
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Use low-sodium if desired.
  • 2 tbsp butter (melted)
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika (optional)
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley (chopped for garnish)

Method

Preparation
  1. Pat the salmon dry and season both sides with garlic powder, black pepper, and paprika if using. Let rest at room temperature for about 5 minutes.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together brown sugar, soy sauce, melted butter, and honey until smooth.
Cooking
  1. For the skillet method, heat a nonstick or stainless steel skillet over medium-high heat. For the oven method, preheat to 400°F and line a baking sheet with foil.
  2. Skillet: Place salmon skin-side down and cook for 4 to 5 minutes. Flip and cook for an additional 2 to 4 minutes. Oven: Roast skin-side down for 8 to 12 minutes based on thickness.
  3. Spoon or brush the glaze over the salmon in the last 1 to 2 minutes of cooking. Broil for 30 to 60 seconds for extra caramelization if desired.
  4. Transfer to a plate and let rest for 2 minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and serve.

Notes

Let the salmon sit 5 minutes at room temperature before cooking for even cooking. Use a heavy skillet for even heat in the skillet method. Watch the broiler closely if you broil for caramelization — it browns fast. Adjust glaze amounts for larger fillets.
