Ingredients

For the Garlic Bread Bowl
  • 1 loaf loaf of crusty garlic bread Store bought or homemade
For the Pasta
  • 8 oz spaghetti Can use linguine or penne as an alternative
  • 2 cups pasta sauce Tomato, Alfredo, or your choice; use a thicker sauce to avoid soggy bread
  • 1 cup mixed veggies Bell peppers, mushrooms, spinach, or favorites; finely chopped
  • 1/2 to 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese Plus extra for serving
For Garnish
  • Fresh basil or parsley For garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven according to the garlic bread package instructions, or set to 375°F to 400°F for homemade bread.
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook spaghetti until al dente, following package directions. Drain, reserving about 1/4 cup pasta water.
  3. Warm a saucepan over medium heat. Add pasta sauce and mixed veggies. Simmer until veggies are tender, about 4 to 6 minutes. If the sauce is too thick, loosen with reserved pasta water.
  4. Add the drained spaghetti to the sauce and toss gently to coat. Adjust salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Hollow out the top of each garlic bread loaf, leaving a sturdy rim for support. Save removed bread for breadcrumbs or croutons.
Assembly
  1. Spoon the spaghetti mixture into each garlic bread bowl, packing lightly and leaving some room at the top for cheese.
  2. Sprinkle grated Parmesan evenly over the filled bowls.
Baking
  1. Place the filled loaves on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 10 to 15 minutes until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbling.
  2. Remove from the oven and let rest for 2 minutes. Garnish with torn basil or chopped parsley before serving.
