Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 loaf Texas toast, sliced thick Use day-old or slightly stale for better absorption.
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk Whole milk preferred.
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream Can be substituted with all-milk for a lighter version.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your mindset for an easy make-ahead dish and butter a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Arrange the Texas toast slices in a single even layer across the bottom of the dish.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk the eggs until smooth. Add milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt, whisking until fully combined.
  4. Pour the custard evenly over the bread, pressing lightly to ensure absorption.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and chill for at least 4 hours; ideally overnight.
Baking
  1. Remove the plastic wrap and preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake uncovered for 45 to 50 minutes, until the top is golden and the center is set.
  3. Let the casserole rest for 5 to 10 minutes before cutting into squares.
