  • 1/2 cup honey Adjust sweetness as needed.
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce Choose a flavor you like.
  • 1 cup chicken broth Use low-sodium broth for tighter control on salt.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For browning the chicken.

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and set an oven-safe pan on the stove.
  2. Heat the olive oil over medium heat until it shimmers.
  3. Season the chicken with salt and pepper on both sides.
  4. Add the chicken to the pan and brown for 4 to 5 minutes per side until caramelized.
Cooking
  1. In a small bowl, whisk the honey and BBQ sauce until smooth, then pour half over the browned chicken.
  2. Scatter the rice evenly around and beneath the chicken pieces.
  3. Pour the chicken broth over the rice and bring everything to a gentle boil on the stovetop.
  4. Cover the pan with a tight-fitting lid or foil and transfer to the oven.
  5. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the rice is tender and the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C) at the thickest part.
Finishing Touches
  1. Remove from the oven, spoon the remaining sauce over the chicken, and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  2. Garnish with chopped green onions if desired.
