Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 pounds ground beef (80/20) Provides juicier results; leaner will be drier.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Regular or panko.
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg Substitute with flax egg if desired.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
For the Glaze
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Position a rack in the center.
  2. In a large bowl, add ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Mix gently until evenly combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into a rectangular loaf about 8–9 inches long and place in a shallow baking dish or loaf pan, seam-side down.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth. Spoon the glaze over the meatloaf.
Baking
  1. Bake for approximately 1 hour until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C). Tent loosely with foil if the glaze darkens too much.
  2. Remove from the oven and let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
