Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the peeled, cored, and sliced apples with 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, lemon juice, and water. Stir gently until fruit is evenly coated. Transfer to a 9x13 inch baking pan.
Making the Topping
- In a medium bowl, whisk together brown sugar, gluten-free flour, gluten-free oats, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Add the cold, cubed unsalted butter or non-dairy alternative. Use a pastry cutter or two knives to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until you achieve a crumbly texture.
Assembly
- Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the apple filling in the baking pan.
Baking
- Bake for 45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown. Monitor the last 10 minutes to prevent over-browning.
Serving
- Let cool for 10-15 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm with any of your favorite toppings.

Notes
For best results, mix tart and sweet apples to enhance flavor. You can prepare the filling and topping separately a day in advance. Store apples in the fridge and topping at room temperature.
