  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter 1 stick
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup chocolate chips optional for extra richness

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well mixed.
  4. Beat in the cocoa, flour, salt, and baking powder until combined.
  5. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  6. If desired, sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, checking to ensure not to overcook.
  2. The toothpick should come out with a few moist crumbs.
  3. Allow to cool before cutting into squares.
