  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Can substitute with margarine.
  • 2 cups granulated sugar Can experiment with brown sugar.
  • 4 large eggs Add each egg individually.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds flavor to the batter.
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Can replace with gluten-free flour.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Cream Cheese Layer
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened Must be softened for mixing.
  • 1 pound powdered sugar Ensure it’s well-mixed.
  • 1 cup powdered sugar for dusting For serving.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until smooth and creamy.
  3. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt, then gradually mix this dry blend into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, covering the bottom evenly.
Cream Cheese Layer
  1. Mix the softened cream cheese with the powdered sugar until smooth.
  2. Pour this cream cheese mixture over the batter in the pan.
Baking
  1. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the center is set.
  2. Allow to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
