  • 32 oz 1 bag (about 32 oz) frozen tater tots Do not thaw before baking.
  • 2 cans 2 cans chili (with or without beans) Use your favorite brand or homemade substitute.
  • 2 cups 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Sharp cheddar gives more flavor.
  • 1 cup 1 cup sour cream For serving.
  • 1/2 cup 1/2 cup chopped green onions Scallions for garnish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Spread the frozen tater tots in an even layer across the bottom of a large baking dish.
  3. Open the cans of chili and spoon the chili over the tots. Use the back of a spoon to spread it into an even layer.
  4. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the chili until the top is well covered.
Cooking
  1. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and beginning to brown in spots.
  2. Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes to set.
  3. Serve each portion with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of chopped green onions.

Notes
