Ingredients

Brownie Layer
  • 1 batch batch of brownies, baked and completely cooled (homemade or store-bought) Fudgy or cakey both work; fudgy gives a richer texture.
Pudding Layer
  • 2 cups chocolate pudding (instant or homemade) Instant pudding is fast; homemade pudding adds deeper chocolate flavor.
Whipped Cream Layer
  • 2 cups whipped cream (freshly whipped or stabilized whipped topping) Stabilize with powdered sugar or use a commercial stabilized topping for longer hold.
Garnish
  • to taste Chocolate shavings or sprinkles for garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. Cut the cooled brownies into bite-sized pieces so they layer neatly.
  2. Place half of the brownie pieces in the bottom of a trifle dish or a large glass bowl. Press lightly to create an even base.
  3. Spoon half of the chocolate pudding over the brownie layer. Smooth it gently with the back of a spoon.
  4. Spread half of the whipped cream over the pudding in an even layer. Use an offset spatula for a smooth finish.
  5. Repeat: add the remaining brownie pieces, then the remaining pudding, and finish with the remaining whipped cream.
  6. Top the trifle with chocolate shavings or sprinkles for texture and visual appeal.
  7. Cover the dish and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour so the layers set and flavors marry.
