Ingredients

Marinade and Beef
  • 1 lb beef, flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced Slice across the grain for tenderness.
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Use gluten-free soy sauce if avoiding gluten.
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce Adds savory depth.
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch Coat the beef and thicken the sauce.
  • 1/4 cup beef broth or water Mix into the marinade for body.
Vegetables and Cooking
  • 3 cups broccoli florets Cut to similar bite size for even cooking.
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For high-heat stir-frying.
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic Freshly minced for best aroma.
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger Peeled and finely minced.
For Serving
  • 4 servings cooked rice Jasmine or short-grain rice works well.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and beef broth or water until smooth.
  2. Add the sliced beef and toss to coat, then let it marinate for about 15 minutes.
Cooking
  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  2. Add the minced garlic and ginger, stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add the marinated beef, reserving any extra marinade, and cook until browned on the edges, about 3 to 5 minutes, until the beef reaches 160°F.
  4. Add the broccoli and the reserved marinade to the skillet. Stir well to combine and cook for an additional 5 to 7 minutes until the broccoli is tender yet crisp.
Serving
  1. Serve the stir-fry directly over a bed of hot rice. Garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds. Pair with a simple cucumber salad dressed with rice vinegar and sugar.

For a lighter sauce, use water instead of beef broth. To make gluten-free, use a certified gluten-free soy sauce and check the oyster sauce label for gluten content.
