  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20) Gives good flavor; leaner works if you reduce add-ins slightly
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped Yellow or sweet
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Plain or Italian seasoned
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup milk Dairy or unsweetened plant milk
  • 1 can (about 10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt Start with this amount to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Start with this amount to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or similar sized casserole.
  2. In a large bowl combine the ground beef, chopped onion, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into 6 medium patties or 4 larger ones. Place them evenly in the prepared baking dish.
Baking
  1. Spoon the cream of mushroom soup over the patties to coat them evenly. Smooth the top with a spatula.
  2. Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for about 45 minutes.
  3. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, until the patties are cooked through.
  4. Let the dish rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes
